Richter’s blurring technique

Image description

The model Kendra was the template here, but an exact depiction

is not the goal of this work. It was more important to achieve

smooth color transitions through blurring

Story

After I had painted a black and white portrait using the blurring technique

from a photo, I dared to paint a colored picture here.

First the head was painted and blurred, then the body

Technology

The preliminary drawing was made in charcoal and sepia,

which could be used for overpainting as a grisaille.

The oil paint was made more fluid with walnut oil to achieve

a thin application of paint that could be blurred without smudging
